Q101 SPORTS WRAP 3-20-12

The Blackhawks tonight accomplished something that has only been accomplished very few times in NHL history. They completed a full season sweep of a division opponent. And that opponent tonight was the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blackhawks defeated the Jackets by a final score of 5-1, and they gain another victory without Johnathan Toews.

Patrick Sharp scored twice tonight, Marian Hossa, Brent Seabrook, and Andrew Shaw also scored for the Hawks tonight. The Hawks offense had 27 shots on goal. And despite the lone goal given up by Goalie Cory Crawford tonight, he did manage to get 25 saves. The Blackhawks return home to the United Center tomorrow where the much hated Vancouver Canucks lie in wait.

In other hockey news, the Wolves practiced today. They will hit the road tomorrow to play Lake Erie on Thursday. The Wolves are not only looking to win their division championship {They are first place in the AHL’s Midwest Division}, they are also hoping to inch closer to the top spot in the Western Conference standings. Currently they are in 3rd place but have not clinched a playoff spot just yet.

And the third hockey team in Chicago, the Express… Are hoping to break their 2 game losing streak tomorrow night when they take on the Cincinnati Cyclones. Now this game is a must win for the Express because they are currently tied for the 8th and final playoff spot in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference. A win puts the Express in sole possession of 8th place.

And on another Express note, I will be in the press box for their home game Sunday afternoon against the Toledo Walleye. Faceoff will be after 4pm. The Bulls are off today but will be in Canada tomorrow night to take on the Raptors. Derrick Rose and Rip Hamilton will once again be game time decisions with their injuries. And finally, the Chicago Rush practiced today in preparation for their game against Orlando on Thursday night.

The Rush had a bye week last week after winning their opener against Tampa Bay back on March 10th. I spoke with Rush Linebacker Kelvin Morris earlier tonight and he said that the team used the bye week to heal injuries and for extra practice time. He said that everyone on the squad is healthy and that the Rush will be ready for Thursday night.

And I will be on hand for that game as well. I will be posting videos and articles right here on Q101.com.
