edm-america-tv-linkin-park-guilty-all-the-sameLinkin Park is definitely at a point in their career where the band can do whatever it wants to musically, and for their sixth album, they decided it’s time to break out the guitars and get heavy again. That is the basic idea behind The Hunting Party, which is due on June 17.

“It needed to be visceral,” LP’s Mike Shinoda told Rolling Stone of writing the new record. “We need to weed out a lot of the soft, emo kind of approach to our music, and we need to weed out anything that feels aggressive for aggressive’s sake. We’re not 18-year-old kids making a loud record – we’re 37-year-old adults making a loud record. And what makes a 37-year-old angry is different than what made us angry back in the day.”

Linkin Park produced the album themselves, save for the track “Wastelands of Today,” produced by Rob Cavallo. The album, which will contain 12 songs, isn’t quite finished yet, but Shinoda is currently doing the mixing. As a nod to their heavier inspirations, Linkin Park also invited some special guests to play on The Hunting Party, including Helmet’s Page Hamilton, who sings on “All for Nothing,” and System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian, who plays on “Rebellion.”

“We didn’t make the heaviest record of all time. I’m very aware that there are super, super heavy bands out there that make music that is really, really gnarly,” Shinoda concedes. “We didn’t make a Botch record. We didn’t make a Meshuggah record. We made a really loud and aggressive Linkin Park record, maybe the loudest we’ve made.”

As previously reported, LP heads out on the road this summer with 30 Seconds To Mars for The Carnivores Tour. The trek will kick off on August 8 in West Palm Beach, FL and will hit 25 cities before wrapping on September 19 in Concord, CA.”
