To attract or repel–that is the question poking into my brain at the creation of Zombie For Him and Her, new “fragrances” by Demeter.
Zombie For Him smells a lot like the volcano exhibit at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.
For the incredibly high percentage of readers who find that description useless and obnoxious, let’s let Demeter explain what the company thinks of its pungent product:
“Think forest floor. Zombie for Him is a combination of dried leaves, mushrooms, mildew, moss and earth.”
Zombie for Her smells like grass, but not fresh smelling grass. It’s more like the lawn clippings that have been sitting in trash bags for weeks because nobody wants to lug those things to the curb to be picked up. Demeter says there’s also “dregs from the bottom of the wine barrel for a feminine touch.”

Percussion icon and founder of Sabian Cymbals, Robert Zildjian, has died at the age of 89. The Boston born businessman succumbed after a battle with cancer on March 28, and is survived by his wife, three children and eight grandchildren.
Robert Zildjian formed Sabian cymbals after a family feud resulted in the businessman leaving yet another legendary cymbal company, Zildjian. Family tradition dictated that the secrets of the Zildjian cymbal company would be passed down only to the oldest son, but Avedis Zildjian III offered the sacred information to both Robert and his younger brother Armand, eventually leading to a rift which broke the brothers apart, leaving them as competitors.
A memorial guestbook has been posted on Sabian’s official website, but to due the massive outpouring of mourners, the site’s server has been struggling to keep up, but if you’d like to pay tribute to RZ, be sure to commit your name to the digital guestbook.

At the time of its release, ‘Surfer Rosa’ was no big deal. The Pixies’ debut album came less than six months after their first EP, ‘Come On Pilgrim,’ which included a handful of songs remixed from their scrappy demo tape. But ‘Come On Pilgrim’ didn’t stir much interest outside of a small college-rock cult audience. So when ‘Surfer Rosa’ hit shelves on March 21, 1988, it wasn’t like tons of fans were waiting for it.
But over the years the album’s rep grew. And grew. And grew. Today, on the 25th anniversary of its release, ‘Surfer Rosa’ is considered an indie rock cornerstone, a masterpiece of the soft-loud-soft dynamic used by everyone from Nirvana to the Smashing Pumpkins to Spoon. It’s an essential record that connects the dots between ‘80s college rock and its evolution toward ‘90s indie.

I must be old school. I don’t want anyone to know what’s REALLY going on in my grey matter. It’s too dark, jumbled, and well, private. But it still is fascinating to know that this technology could be useful to aid someone, somewhere, who might be suffering.
Scientists scanning the human brain can now tell whom a person is thinking of, the first time researchers have been able to identify what people are imagining from imaging technologies.
They can now even reconstruct videos of what a person has watched based on their brain activity alone. Cornell University cognitive neuroscientist Nathan Spreng and his colleagues wanted to carry this research one step further by seeing if they could deduce the mental pictures of people that subjects conjure up in their heads.
“The scope of this is incredible when you think of all the people you meet over the course of your life and are able to remember. Each one probably has its own unique representation in the brain,” Spreng says. “This representation can be modified as we share experiences and learn more about each other, and plays into how we imagine future events with others unfolding.”

Just like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates, the craze of music mashups tells us you never know what you’re going to get. Sometimes tracks you could never imagine sync up in perfect absurd harmony, and that’s the case with a new mashup from an artist going by the name PomDeter. The mixmaster has decided to take the Nine Inch Nails classic ‘Head Like a Hole’ and put it together with the recent ubiquitous Carly Rae Jepsen hit ‘Call Me Maybe.’
Production-wise, the track dubbed ‘Call Me a Hole’ works surprisingly well, with Trent Reznor‘s angst-ridden lyrics laying perfectly into the Jepsen music bed. But that’s also where things get a little weird. You can feel the emotion of Reznor’s vocal delivery perhaps even more in the song, but it’s hard to get too pulled down into mire of his melancholy with strings so infectiously catchy.

When ships and planes mysteriously vanish — sometimes without a trace — speculation runs wild.
Many worry about the conventional — pilot error, kidnapping and terrorism come to mind. And there are those who worry about the supernatural.
Acclaimed fashion designer Vittorio Missoni and five others boarded a twin-engine BN-2 Islander aircraft in the Los Roques island chain near Venezuela on January 4. They were headed for Caracas and had only flown about 11 miles when they vanished into thin air.
So what happened to Missoni’s plane? Could foul play have been involved, in an area that has seen its share of kidnappings or hijackings by possible drug dealers?
The Guardian reports that unexplained plane crashes and disappearances have allegedly occurred over the last 10 years in the same geographic location between Caracas and the Los Roques chain of 350 islands, cays and islets covering an area of about 40 kilometers.
If any of this sounds even vaguely familiar, it’s probably because this area, dubbed locally as the Los Roques Curse, is not far from the infamous Bermuda Triangle — bordered by Bermuda, Florida and Puerto Rico — where people, planes and ships have vanished for decades.
“They” try to explain:
“The only way to get to and from those islands is by boat or plane, and — like cars, boats or anything else — more traffic than average means more accidents and mishaps than average. If anything, it’s surprising there aren’t more crashes.”
While The Bermuda Triangle is the most famous of areas around the world laying claim to causing people, planes and ships to vanish, there actually hasn’t been such a report from there for almost a decade.

The members of Metallica continue their partnership with Vans by introducing four new signature shoes, each designed by one of the members of the band. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo were all given free reign to choose any Vans style and make it their own by adding their own touches to the design.
The Vans x Metallica Signature Shoes:
James Hetfield – Inspired by his favorite black boots, James added hex-bolt eyelets and a personal take on the skull and cross-bones, illustrated by Hetfield himself, to “Metallicize” this Vans Sk8-Hi Deconstruct.
Lars Ulrich – Putting a twist on one of Vans’ original Classics, Lars updated the Era Laceless with brushed twill materials and a print taken from the diamond plate pattern on his snare drum. He finished his shoe with a Dirty Donny character on the inside heel.
Kirk Hammett – Tying back to a love of surfing and nature, Kirk chose an all-natural upper made of hemp for his collapsible Slip-On. The inside heel is accented with a guitar pick inspired by his Ouija guitar and designed by one of Metallica’s favorite artists, Dirty Donny.
Robert Trujillo – Robert grew up wearing Vans as a young skater in Venice Beach, California. For his shoe, he took Aztec calendar artwork, designed by his wife Chloe, which is carved in one of his bass guitars and placed it in blue, on the side of this Escuela.

What’s this all about, eh? Real life Ken, Justin Jedlica, thinks real life Barbie, Valeria Lukyanova, looks like a drag queen and TELLS her so. Real life Barbie, speaking to the Sun, defends herself to real life Ken: “Justin said bad things about me but he had more than 90 operations, while I had only one. I am not hiding that I’ve had plastic surgery. I had breast implants because I want to be perfect. He would do better not to comment on who is plastic and who is not. I think he is handsome man — but he overdid his lips.”
Jedlica, a New York native, appears to have more of an affinity for Lacey Wildd, a model and mother who wears a triple-L cup size. The Ken lookalike posted a photo of him and Wildd together on Friday with the caption, “Omg I love Lacey!”
Sadly, it appears that Barbie and Ken will not be building their dreamhouse together anytime soon.

A newly-identified species of spider living in California’s Joshua Tree National Park has been named after Bono.
Nearly three dozen new species of the cleverly named trapdoor spider, which hides from prey beneath a self-made hatch, have been identified, three of them from Joshua Tree National Park. The female trapdoor spiders live 20 years or longer, while the males live about five years.
Biologist Jason Bond of Auburn University in Alabama recently discovered 33 new species of trapdoor spider. Bond named two of those spiders after Native American tribes and called the third A. bonoi after the U2 frontman.
See a trapdoor spider in action. Warning: Unlike Bono, IT’S DISGUSTING!
