Dan Patrick hit it on the head on AM 1530 WCKG when he said the next team should make good old #54 a player coach. The Bears should have, COULD have, offer Urlacher a role in the organization beyond being a punching bag on the field. They did not.
Too bad. #54 should be a lifetime Bear. Learn from this…

Parking Panda, a new service that allows drivers to list their empty spaces and others to rent them as needed, is looking to solve the problem of an ever-increasing shortage of parking spaces nationwide.
By compiling a network of unused parking spaces, Parking Panda provides drivers with a list of available spots, allowing them to reserve and pay online.
Anyone using the service can register an unused spot. Those looking for a parking spot at a particular time can log on and search available spaces, rent and pay online with a guaranteed empty spot. However, spots may not always be available as availability depends on how many people register empty spots and where and when they are accessible.
“A single space in a driveway or backyard is hardly worth marketing,” Slate’s Matthew Yglesias wrote, “but if an online service can drastically simplify the discovery process, then suddenly ‘hidden’ parking capacity can be unlocked.”
Try Parking Panda in Chicago. It could relieve all your woes in coming to the city with just a few clicks!

Who says ALL Black Friday shoppers behave badly? Three bystanders helped a crime victim when they chased a parolee accused of snatching a woman’s purse and then trapped him in the back seat of a cab on Michigan Avenue until police arrived.
One of the good Samaritans, Mike Hochhauser, 31, said he didn’t hesitate to chase Richard D. Mendoza, 31, once he stepped out of his building and saw Mendoza stomping on a woman while trying to steal her purse.
“Honestly, I just started running after him, thinking, ‘I’m not going to let this guy get away with this. There’s no way I’m going to let that happen to somebody,’” Hochhauser said.
Mendoza probably would have gotten away if not for the efforts of Hochhauser and the other two people who (do NOT insert Scooby Doo reference here) chased him, said police Officer Patrick Bryant, who helped arrest Mendoza.
Mendoza, of Chicago, was charged with strong-arm robbery and battery, police said. He has 14 prior arrests and four convictions, police said — one for armed robbery, one for strong-arm robbery and two for residential burglaries.
Mendoza is on parole and was wearing an electronic ankle bracelet when he was arrested, police said.
The victim was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and released.

Fear not, these apparitions have never been known to injure anyone. Scare the pants off, perhaps, but never to hurt.
While pop-up, Halloween-themed amusement parks and “haunted” houses proliferate the Chicago scene this time of year, why not skip the hoopla and try your hand at witnessing the “real” thing — all while knocking back a beer and chowing on some grub?
Huffington Post has identified ten local “haunts” where you may get a bonus with your food or drink…a visit from beyond the grave. If you’re lucky, you might just have an experience of your own to boast about.

Thirsty? The Chicago Beer Festival is exactly the sort of thing you’ve been looking for. On Saturday, 60 breweries ranging from local favorites to nationally-recognized brands will take over Union Station downtown to serve up some 200 varieties running the gamut from pale ales and ciders to porters and seasonals.
Tickets to the festival run $40 and cover — wait for it — unlimited tastings at one of two three-hour event sessions, either 1-4 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. Saturday. Food is sold separately.
In addition to the tastings, Marty Nachel, author of “Beer For Dummies,” will be leading free classes on the brewing process and beer evaluations.

What better way to conserve our world’s resources than showering with one you love? Hell, you don’t even have to LOVE the one you shower with, but liking them could go a long way to building and maintaining your “relationship”.
AXE, a brand of grooming products including shower gel, is doing a “showerpooling” water conservation campaign with a video narrated by “Twilight’s” Nikki Reed and stops at 10 college campuses, including a visit to Northwestern University planned for October 17.
The campaign centers around a pledge at Facebook.com/axe to install water-efficient showerheads (which AXE will give out to college students for free), reduce shower time to five minutes or less and, of course, invite a friend into the shower. Those who take the online pledge are eligible to win prizes.
Their slogan: “It’s not just environmentally-friendly. It’s all kinds of friendly.”

Summer is all but over, but that’s no reason to head indoors for the next seven months. A handful of bars and restaurants that debuted new outdoor spaces earlier this year are keeping customers comfy outside thanks to heat lamps and fireplaces—and in some cases, blankets and hot drinks, too. Slap on a scarf and head to one of these cozy hangouts. Here are a couple to check out:
Fountainhead 1970 W. Montrose Ave. 773-697-8204 This Ravenswood spot is serious about keeping you warm. It already has four heaters and a fireplace and is planning on adding more heaters and doling out blankets to keep the garden rocking throughout fall with events like a Day of the Dead bash Nov. 2 and a Punkin’ Party Oct. 29 featuring punk music and beer poured out of huge pumpkins. Open until: End of November
The J. Parker 1816 N. Clark St. 312-254-4747 The rooftop lounge atop Lincoln Park’s Hotel Lincoln gets the full brunt of the wind coming off of Lake Michigan, which can add a chill even to a warm night. Luckily it’s equipped with two small fireplaces and a fire pit in the center of a massive 14-seater booth, plus additional heat lamps for the fall. If that’s not enough, one of the bourbon- or whiskey-focused cocktails on its new drink list will help warm you from the inside out. Open until: End of October
