A 59-year-old preschool teacher has been arrested on child endangerment charges for allegedly putting an unknown substance into the drinking cups of her young students.
Morgan Hill, CA police said Deborah Gratz had been arrested after Kiddie Academy preschool officials reported that she had put Sominex — an over the counter sleeping aid — into the drinking cups of some of the children on Friday March 8, 2013.
A witness told authorities they observed Gratz placing an unknown substance into the drinking cups in her classroom filled with toddlers between one and two years of age.
She is currently “lodged” in the local county jail after being arrested on felony charges of child endangerment.

Woohoo! Lucky to win the lotto! Not lucky to blow up the house. Lucky again, just to be alive. The Wichita Eagle reports that two brothers were partying together to celebrate a $75,000 winning lottery ticket, when they accidentally blew up their Wichita home. Neither of the brother’s names has been reported.
From the Wichita Eagle:
One of the brothers went to the kitchen to refuel the butane torches they planned to use to light their bongs. He emptied a couple of large cans of butane lighter fluid, leaking butane into the air.
We all can deduce what happened next…BOOM!
One man was treated for second-degree burns and is in stable condition.
The other brother was arrested on drug charges after telling police he had meth and marijuana in the home.
Perhaps the lottery winnings can be used to retain a good lawyer.

As if the world isn’t already crazy enough, hackers infiltrated the emergency broadcast system of local station KRTV in Great Falls, Montana, a CBS affiliate, and issued a fake zombie alert, the station said on Tuesday.
Viewers were warned of a so-called zombie apocalypse and advised not to tangle with the monstrous creatures, the station said.
Engineers at the station were investigating the incident, which occurred during a Monday afternoon broadcast, said Jon Saunders, vice president of the station’s parent company, Cordillera Communications.
Saunders said early reports suggest similar but separate attacks were launched in the past 24 hours against emergency alert systems for TV stations elsewhere, including Michigan.
“It appears to be more widespread than we thought,” he said.
The hoax caused several humorous-minded residents in Great Falls to call authorities to inquire if guns were an adequate defense against zombie hordes.
Dumb hackers. One of these times, it could be for real and we’ll all be dead. Remember “The Boy Who Cried Wolf?”

Two armed men attempted to carjack a Corvette last week, Orlando police say, but were unable to figure out how to work the manual transmission.
The Corvette’s owner, 51-year-old Randolph Bean, told WKMG-TV he was sitting in the yellow vehicle waiting for his wife to get out of work at the Orlando Regional Medical Center at around 11:20 p.m. He saw two men approaching the car with a gun “drawn and pointing at me.”
Bean says they opened the door and forced him out of the vehicle. One man held him on the ground at gun point.
The second man, he says, got into the vehicle and, after some apparent confusion, started screaming, “How do I start the car?” at Bean.
“I had to tell him four different times to push in the clutch, because it’s a standard transmission,” Bean told WOFL-TV.
Finally giving up on the carjacking, the robbers took his wallet, phone, and house keys and fled, presumably on foot or a vehicle with an automatic transmission.

You’d think the safest place for animals is usually a zoo. That apparently isn’t the case in China. At a zoo in China’s Guangdong province over the weekend, a man apparently bit and killed a large flightless bird as part of an elaborate suicide attempt.
According to the blog The Nanfang, the man, slashed his wrists after police were called. “As he began to lose strength, Li lay on the ostrich’s corpse like a pillow before police approached him tentatively. He offered little resistance before police dragged him away,” writes Kevin McGreary.
Zoos in China do not offer animals the same safe harbor received here in America. For more horror stories, READ HERE.

Clemson University student Nathan Weaver just wanted to put together a project to help figure out the best way to assist turtles in crossing the road. But he also ended up with a peek into the dark souls of some human beings.
Weaver put realistic-looking rubber turtles, no bigger than a saucer, in the middle of a lane on a busy road near campus. Then he got out of the way and watched as over the next hour, seven drivers intentionally ran over the turtle, and several more appeared to try to hit the defenseless animal, but missed.
“It was a bit surprising. I’ve heard of people and from friends who knew people that ran over turtles. But to see it out here like this was a bit shocking,” said Weaver, a 22-year-old senior in Clemson’s School of Agricultural, Forest and Environmental Sciences.
But to seasoned researchers, the targeting of turtles and other reptiles isn’t surprising. The number of box turtles is on a slow decline, with one prominent reason being the riskiness of crossing the road because the trip takes several minutes.

Sailor Chris Cole returned home from base Thursday in Norfolk, VA to find his house was burglarized. ”They came through the garage. You can see where they crow-barred their way in here,” says Cole.
“They went through all the drawers, tore everything out to make sure nothing was hidden in there.” They took all the presents under the tree.
But worst of all, the Coles’ 2-year-old pit-bull Nyla was stolen too. Not knowing if Nyla was friendly, a burglar threw pizza at the dog on the couch, then realizing the pure bred didn’t bite, she became one more thing to steal.
“Nyla is our family and that’s the most important thing to us,” says Stacey Cole, “We don’t care about anything else really. We just want our family put back together, especially for Christmas.”

A Texas man, Brent Troy Bartel, has been arrested and charged with assaulting his son after telling a 911 operator he carved a pentagram into his 6-year-old son’s back. At the same time, the child’s mother called 911 from a neighbor’s home and said her husband was hurting their child.
Police said Wednesday afternoon that the carving wasn’t deep enough to require stitches and that the child is expected to physically recover.
At the scene, officers also recovered a box cutter they believe Bartel used to make the carving.
Bartel’s bizarre behavior has landed him in jail before. He was arrested in 2007, according to the Lancaster New Era. Bartel had been in court to fight at $25 traffic ticket for an illegal turn. Bartel approached the judge, turned over his drivers’ license, and proclaimed he’s done as a truck driver. He then tried to punch the police officer who gave him the ticket. It took three officers and an attorney to wrestle him to the floor.

If this kind of thing keeps up, these thugs are going to give rappers a bad reputation.
About 1 a.m. Thursday, two men dropped by Copy Catz, a Maryland recording studio, to lay down “Larry Hoover” – dedicated to famous Chicago gangster King Larry.
When the rap was wrapped, the pair left the studio and walked out of the building while everybody else got ready to leave, but the rappers quickly returned – with guns. They ordered everyone to sit on the sofa and started demanding valuables.
The rappers did leave ONE clue as to their identity: the recording.
“What we’re looking for is the voice recognition,” police spokesman Pete Piringer said. “Maybe someone will recognize their voices or know this tune or know who these fellas are.”
Security protocol at the studio was not followed, obviously. Those responsible for the safety of its employees will probably be looking for a new job in the near future.

Four kids on Chicago’s North Side got to experience a real life episode of COPS this week. Their school bus driver, who was taking them to a public elementary school, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being stopped for erratic driving, officials said Wednesday.
Once the bus driver finally pulled over, the officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and noticed his eyes were bloodshot.
Kenny Sellers, of Chicago, failed a field sobriety test but refused to take a breath test. Taken to the 17th District police station, Sellers tried to escape and fought with a police officer. Sellers received seven citations, including a felony count of aggravated DUI for a bus driver and aggravated battery against a police officer.
Thankfully, the kids were okay and were transported to school by another bus driver.
