Skillet Reveals New Release Coming Soon

Print Print this page.

Skillet are coming off the most successful album of their career and if they fail to meet the bar set by the last disc it won’t be through a lack of trying.

Singer John Cooper revealed, “Before we started work on the last album, I brought in full demos of 36 songs. This time, we had 72 at the beginning. So there was a lot of cutting down we had to do. Also, I’m not sure we even expected ‘Awake’ to do as well as it did, but since it did perform so well, now there is this sort of pressure to do it again. But that’s okay. I’ve enjoyed writing from my heart and from my faith and I think the new music is a really honest look at where Skillet is today.”

Though a firm release date and album title have yet to be revealed, Skillet expect to return to the road this spring. Cooper says the group are currently deciding on what the lead single and their video plans will be.

Marilyn Manson Collapses Onstage

Print Print this page.

Marilyn Manson has been known to heighten the shock value at shows, but what happens when the “shock” is unintentional? During a show in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on Wednesday night (Feb. 6), Manson collapsed and vomited onstage in the midst of the fan-favorite track ‘The Beautiful People.’

According to the Ottawa Citizen, the vocalist was rocking just like normal during the performance, then went down to one knee, which seemed like a traditional rock star move to get closer to the audience, he then fell to the stage and began to vomit.

An update on Manson’s condition has not been released and it is not known how this will affect his current itinerary.

Stooges – Ready To Die

Is Iggy Pop finally ‘Ready to Die?’ That’s the name of the new album from proto-punk legends the Stooges.

A release date for the album has yet to be announced, but the band has finished recording, and the titles of two songs have been revealed: ‘I Got a Job But It Don’t Pay S—’ and ‘Gun.’ Let’s hope ‘Ready to Die’ gets a better reception than ’The Weirdness,’ which, despite being the Stooges’ first studio album in more than three decades, was flogged with near-universal bad reviews.

Middle Class Rut–Pick Up Your Head

Print Print this page.

Middle Class Rut are putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated new album, Pick Up Your Head (Bright Antenna Records), mixed by Grammy winning producer Dave Sardy (Johnny Cash, LCD Soundsystem, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds).

Set for a May 21st release, Pick Up Your Head is the follow-up to 2010’s No Name No Color, which featured the hit single “New Low,” which shot to No. 5 at alternative radio, and whose companion video amassed more than 4 million YouTube views.

The band is raising the bar with Pick Up Your Head, an album Zack Lopez says is “an evolution of a lot of ideas we had as the writing for No Name No Color was winding down. I think we exhausted what we could do in the confines of just drums/guitars/vocals. Once we embraced the idea that anything goes, the songs poured out.”

Elvis, The Roots Album 2013

Print Print this page.

Elvis Costello has made three appearances on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ over the years, and each time, he’s played with house band the Roots. It’s that trio of TV gigs that Roots drummer and bandleader Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson says led his group to collaborate with Costello on a new album they recently finished recording and plan to release later this year.

Elvis and the Roots plan to reconvene in the near future to mix and master their collaborative recordings, although details of the release — including when it will surface and what label will release it — remain sketchy. ”We kind of have the freedom to take it around, whether it’s to Elvis’ people or Def Jam’s people,” says Thompson. “I can just say that it is brilliant.”

David Draiman is an incredibly busy man at the moment. Along with creating the debut album for his new industrial band Device, the vocalist is currently in the studio with Trivium to help produce the metal band’s next album. Draiman also recently gave an update about the on-hiatus Disturbed, revealing, “The beast certainly is not dead — it’s just sleeping for a little while.”

During an interview with Artisan News (watch below), Draiman spoke about the relationships he shares with his Disturbed bandmates and stresses that personal differences were not a factor in the band’s hiatus.

Sex Pistols Last Show Was 35 YEARS Ago

Print Print this page.

It’s hard to imagine now, but back in 1978, punk rockers the Sex Pistols were public enemies in both the States and their native United Kingdom.

In a sense, the public’s revulsion made sense, since the quartet — frontman Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, bassist Sid Vicious and drummer Paul Cook — specialized in antagonism. Their songs were both musically and lyrically aggressive (see the riot-fomenting ‘Anarchy In the U.K.’ and blasphemous-toward-royalty ‘God Save the Queen’), and so were the band’s antics, whether it was dropping profanities on live television or heckling fans from the stage.

On January 14, 1978, in San Francisco, in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,000 people, the band played. The show eventually ended with a cover of the Stooges’ ‘No Fun,’ which featured Rotten darkly muttering the chorus like a cranky grandfather for most of the song.

But six-and-a-half minutes in, Rotten, sitting down and staring blankly at the audience as the music staggered to a stop around him, laughed brattily and said, “Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated? Good night.” With a sneer and a mic drop, he left the stage, closing the chapter of the original band.

Do You Still Buy CDs?

Print Print this page.

I do. I want to see it, touch it, read it, and taste it. I want to OWN IT.

Amazon announced AutoRip on Thursday, a free service that gives consumers a cloud-based backup for every CD they’ve bought from the company since 1998.

For Amazon, it’s another move towards ensuring that consumers consider the company their primary stream of content, whatever the format. However, the introduction of the service raises another question: Why are people still buying CDs in 2013? After all, most music is available online in a format that’s usually cheaper than CDs and doesn’t take up shelf space.

Sound quality

Though there’s some debate on the issue, David Bakula, SVP of client development for Nielsen, believes that the sound quality of downloaded music isn’t on par with music on a CD.

Technology Lag

“The majority of music buyers purchase CDs and don’t buy digital so there’s a large non-digital population,” says Russ Crupnick, SVP of industry analysis for The NPD Group. “They simply never had the need or motivation to buy digital downloads.”

A couple of analysts mentioned country music as a genre in which the majority of purchases are still via CD. “Country fans are still going to big chains [to buy music],” says Glenn Peoples, senior editorial analyst at Billboard.

Cars

People still listen to a lot of their music in their cars, which are still adapting to the digital changes. “As long as cars have CD players, there’s a market for them,” says Crupnick.

Touch Factor

When people really like the artist, they want a physical package with the artwork. CDs offer that offer a kind of connection with the artist.” Crupnick agrees: “Uber fans like to have the physical version in addition to/instead of digital for artists where they have a strong affinity.”

Adam Gontier on His Departure from TDG

Print Print this page.

In light of the news of his sudden departure from Three Days Grace, Adam Gontier has released a heartfelt letter explaining his departure.

Three Days Grace announced that Gontier left the band due to health issues and has been replaced by My Darkest Days singer Matt Walst for the band’s upcoming tour with Shinedown. With the unspecified ‘health issues’ being cited as the reason, speculation stirred that it might be connected to Gontier’s previously publicized struggles with drugs and addiction. But Gontier explains that he is perfectly sober and is just ready for a new chapter in his life.

An excerpt from Gontier’s letter is shown here:

To all of my fans, my friends, my family, these are my words coming from my heart, separate from my role as “lead singer of Three Days Grace”.

I want you all to know how very thankful I am for your consistent love, your respect, and you’re undying support. It is important for me to address any concerns regarding my health being connected to drugs or addiction. The truth is, when I was struggling during that dark time in my life, I hit rock bottom, and I had the kindest of people reach out from all over the world, and reach their hands out to help pick me up. I am so blessed to be walking in the light now. I am reminded of your loyalty, always. The truth is, and I’m very proud to say this…, I am sober. That chapter in my life is over.

After twenty years of being part of an ever evolving band, I have been inspired by life, to move on and to continue to evolve on my own terms…I will continue to follow my heart, and what I love to do. I’m not sure what the next horizon will look like, but I do have all the faith in the world that whatever it is, It’s meant to be, and I have faith that blessings will continue to shine over all of us.
