Shocker alert! Frontman Adam Gontier has resigned from Three Days Grace just weeks prior to their upcoming co-headlining tour with Shinedown. The band has replaced Gontier with My Darkest Days singer Matt Walst for the trek.

brief posting at the band’s website reveals that Gontier has left the group effective immediately citing a health issue for his exit. The band’s bassist, Brad Walst, stated in a press release, “We were surprised and distressed by Adam’s sudden departure. We are however very excited for this upcoming tour and to have my brother Matt stepping in as lead singer.”

The news comes as a major surprise, as Three Days Grace are one of rock radio’s most successful bands over the past decade, and recently scored a chart-topping single with ‘Chalk Outline’ off their latest album ‘Transit of Venus.’ They’re currently heating up radio again with their new single ‘The High Road.’

Trapt “Reborn”

Chris Taylor Brown knows how to write adrenaline pumping songs. He knows how to incorporate a melodic hook along with amped-up guitars that ends up being the trademark Trapt sound. On Reborn Chris Taylor Brown’s vocals have been recorded differently than they have been in the past. It might be his voice naturally evolving or it could be an effort to make things sound more organic in the mixing process. Brown and the rest of the band reflect their live sound on this record more than previous albums too.

Avenged Sevenfold to Hit Studio

Avenged Sevenfold says that they plan to enter the studio next month to begin recording the follow-up to 2010′s Nightmare.

“This album’s a little more groove orientated,” frontman M. Shadows told NME. “There’s a little bit more groove to it, a little bit more focused on bigger riffs. So that’s where it’s headed – every song has gotta have a huge riff and every song has to have a groove to it.”

Movin’ Out the Banjos For Synth?

Print Print this page.

In a move that could make some diehard fans cringe, Mumford and Sons leader and namesake Marcus Mumford has revealed that the neo-folk rock band may replace some of the banjos on their next album with synthesizers.

“We’ve always done what feels good, rather than what we’ve thought long and hard about, and we’ll do whatever feels soulful next, whether that’s with an electric guitar or a synthesizer,” Mumford said.

Ben Lovett concurred, saying that the group doesn’t want to wave the flag for just one style of music, namely alt folk. “It’s dangerous for us to talk about what we’ve been discussing for the third album, but we do have greater ambitions not to just stay within certain sonic,” he said. “We’re not going to be the band that stands for folk music or organic music.”

Ministry Guitarist Mike Scaccia Dies After Onstage Collapse

Print Print this page.

Mike Scaccia, the guitarist for Ministry and Rigor Mortis, died on Saturday night at the age of 47. Scaccia was performing onstage at the Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas, as part of a 50th birthday celebration for Rigor Mortis singer Bruce Corbitt, when he collapsed. Shortly afterwards, he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Scaccia appeared on recordings by a host of Ministry offshoot bands, including the Revolting Cocks, Lard, and Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters. The most recent Ministry album that Scaccia appeared on was this year’s Relapse.

On Corbitt’s Facebook page, the singer posted the following statement shortly after Scaccia’s passing: “My brother is gone! The only reason I am who I am is because of this man. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t even be in a band. RIP Mike Scaccia! The greatest guitar player I ever knew!”

Fans, Musicians Interpret Beck

Print Print this page.

Earlier this year, when Beck announced plans to release his ‘Song Reader’ book, which features sheet music for 20 songs he wrote but hasn’t recorded, he hoped other musicians would take on the challenge of piecing together the tunes and maybe even try recording them. Now that ‘Reader’ is out — it hit shelves earlier this month — some musicians are doing just that, and Beck has started a website, songreader.net, which features videos of various musicians — most of them amateurs — trying their hand at interpreting the songs.

“It’s something that was part of what brought people together,” Beck tells the AP, recalling the era of the ’20s and ’30s when families would sit around a pianist playing off sheet music and sing along. “Playing music in the home is another aspect of that that’s been lost. I’m not on a campaign to get people to take up songs and play music in their home or anything. But it is interesting to me, the loss of that, what it means.”
