Exorcise the Flu

It sucks to be sick this time of year. Rather than sit and wallow in my misery, I’ve gathered some tunes to either help me in my suffering, share the pain with YOU,  or lead me to the hope of feeling better soon.

Disturbed

Halestorm I don’t miss the misery, I embrace it!

Flyleaf Yes. I’m sick. I admit it.

Blink 182. Who couldn’t feel better listening to these guys?

Enema of the State Girl-Then and Now

Print Print this page.

The album cover for Blink 182′s Enema of the State is one of the enduring images of the late ’90s. Prepare yourself, because that image is about to change.

Adult actress and exotic dancer (AND Jesse James’ ex) Janine Lindemulder posed for the cover, suggestively donning a blue glove and affecting an expression which ignited the imagination of many a teenage Blink 182 fan. But 1999 was some time ago, and time, as they say, changes everything…

Our Lady Peace Readies New Album, Chicago Tour Stop

Our Lady Peace have proven fighters in the two decades since they formed in Toronto, a fitting theme for “Heavyweight,” the first single from their upcoming, eighth studio album, Curve, which is slated for release on April 3, 2012.

“This is the record we’ve been trying to make for the past 10 years. There’s something to be said about being beaten up and being able to dust yourself off and get back in the ring,” says vocalist/lyricist and founding member Raine Maida about the new album, which was once again recorded in Toronto and his own L.A. home recording studio with co-producer Jason Lader.  Lader’s impressive resume includes production work on Jay-Z’s “99 Problems,” along with Mars Volta, Julian Casablancas, Rilo Kiley, Elvis Costello and Noah & the Whale.

“Jason and I had a very frank discussion about the early recordings of Curve before he came in,” says Maida.  “He asked why we weren’t making a record that we’d like to listen to ourselves. That was our impetus for abandoning what we started, bringing in Jason and truly challenging ourselves to come up with something more authentic and inspired. He helped us operate without the filter predicated by walking the major label tightrope.”

“Heavyweight” was made available on iTunes through Coalition Records on December 20 to the band’s loyal fans.  Many Canadian Rock Radio stations bought the song from iTunes and immediately began playing it for their listeners.  The track has had a steady climb up the charts and is currently Top 10 at all Rock Radio formats.

Curve is the result of the band taking creative and artistic risks with their proven methods, featuring such dynamic new songs such as “Mettle,” “Fire In The Henhouse,” “As Fast As You Can,” “Window Seat,” and “Rabbits.”

The band is headed to town for a date at Subterranean April 8.

Amazing Progress For Long-Injured Deftone

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who has been in a coma since a tragic accident in Santa Clara in late 2008, is beginning to emerge from a coma after spending the last three and a half years in an unconscious state, according to reports.

Chi can now move his leg when instructed and vocalize through basic sounds, as well as responding to basic commands.

The 60mph crash which Cheng was involved in left him battered and in critical condition, requiring intensive, life-threatening surgery. His family’s insurance company cut off coverage early in treatment, leaving them with little recourse to cover mounting medical costs.

Eve 6 Prep New Tunes

Max Collins, Tony Fagenson, and Jon Siebels haven’t released music together in roughly eight years, the last EVE6 album came out in July of 2003. Since then, the guys from the band have joined new bands, started projects, produced songs, wrote songs, got the band together without one original member, and finally got the original band back together. To complete the band’s core, they reunited with producer Don Gilmore to make their long-awaited fourth album, Speak in Code. With fans clamoring for the new record, the promotion is starting to pick up. That got a big jolt last week when EVE6 and their new label home, Fearless Records released the first song (but not the first single) off of the band’s upcoming album. The song’s called, “Lost & Found.”

EVE6 drummer, Tony Fagenson discussed the track in a recent interview with Alternative Addiction. “Given the facts that the songs on this album span many years in time, that leans towards newer,” said Fagenson on how old the song was. “Max and I wrote that one about two years ago- late in 2009.”

“Fans of the band who have seen us or who have seen YouTube videos, will know we’ve played that song live here and there for the last couple of years,” added Fagenson. “We actually did a recording of it in 2010 which helped a little bit further. But it’s in its best form on the record. That’s where it all just came together and it’s realized how it was meant to be. Jon rocked the guitars and Don (Gilmore) did great production. That song’s a great shot across the bow for fans to hear new EVE6 music.”

A recent press release from a Chicago venue in the heart of Wrigleyville, The Cubby Bear, announced a show with the band Redlight King, and also indicated that The Cubby Bear will also be celebrating their “long-standing relationship with Chicago’s Alternative, Q101.”

Those familiar with the changes afoot in the Chicago radioscape this summer may be scratching their heads, thinking: “Didn’t Q101 stop playing alternative rock in mid-July and switch to an all news talk format?”

Yes, and no.

WKQX-FM is no longer broadcasting as Q101, but, according to the release: “Chicagoland-area radio entrepreneurs Matt Dubiel and Mike Noonan stepped in and purchased the Q101 brand.  They intend to continue its legacy as a rock music and media powerhouse online, via mobile apps, social media and at area events,” including this concert.
