Montrose Beach is just a bike ride away TODAY, Friday July 27, you’ll enjoy the sounds of Ra Ra Riot, Bestfriends, and California Wives while sipping some Landshark Lager suds with the waves crashing in the background at the first annual Bike to the Beach Bash. What a fantastic way to kick-off another glorious Chicago summer weekend.
It is not required that you ride a bike to the bash. It’s just cool. Bike to the Beach Bash proceeds benefit two Chicago nonprofits: Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art and Blackstone Bicycle Works.
Established in 1991, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art (Intuit) is the only nonprofit organization in the United States that is dedicated solely to presenting self-taught and outsider art — with world class exhibitions; resources for scholars and students; a Permanent Collection with holdings of more than 1,100 works of art; the Henry Darger Room Collection; the Robert A. Roth Study Center, a non-circulating collection with a primary focus in the fields of outsider and contemporary self-taught art; and educational programming for people of all interest levels and backgrounds.
Blackstone Bicycle Works is a youth education program of the Experimental Station. In the context of a full-service bike shop dedicated to promoting ecological practices and empowering youth, Blackstone teaches mechanical skills, job skills, and business literacy to boys and girls from the underserved Woodlawn neighborhood and Chicago’s broader south side.
