NBC has revealed the first promo for the one-hour Mockingbird Lane pilot, which will air on Friday, October 26 at 8 p.m. ET.
In Mockingbird Lane, Eddie Munster (Mason Cook) is a normal kid about to enter the horrors of puberty. Truth is, he’s about to discover that for him becoming a teenager means growing hair in truly unexpected places — as in all over his body — every time the moon is full! Eddie’s got it pretty good though. His loving, supportive, run-of-the-mill family includes his mom Lily (Portia de Rossi), the daughter of Dracula; his dad Herman (Jerry O’Connell), who brings new meaning to “Frankenstein”; and Grandpa (Eddie Izzard), who would give Dracula a run for his money if he weren’t actually Dracula! Of course then there’s creepy cousin Marilyn (Charity Wakefield), who’s really the odd one because she’s so completely normal.

My Dad would have loved to see this if he were still around. His favorite saying? “Another twenty bucks? Let me go out back and s..t some more money.” We now have gold-pooping bacteria…it consumes a toxic metal to produce pure gold.
Before you grab your lab coat and rush out to nab some of the bacteria, stop. It is about as rare as the precious metal itself. And if you’re thinking you can duplicate the reaction in your basement using your gold jewelry, think again. The bacteria is grown on large concentrations of gold chloride — the toxic metal in question — also known as liquid gold.
Michigan State University announced on Oct. 1 that Associate Professor of electronic art and intermedia Adam Brown and his colleague, Assistant Professor of microbiology and molecular genetics Kazem Kashefi had found that the metal-tolerant bacteria could grow in the highly toxic environment. The process, according to Kashefi, is called “microbial alchemy,” and it’s on display in an art installation called “The Great Work of the Metal Lover.”
Slate has produced a video explaining how the super-strong bacteria Cupriavidus metallidurans goes about its precious dirty business:

Awolnation and Red Bull Records are proud to unveil the latest in fan-to-band-to-fan networking called The AWOL “NATION” Project, an innovative new community-driven site that creates a living, breathing interactive experience centered around fan-contributed content.
Fans can post anything they want on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube or Vimeo and if it’s tagged with the hashtag #awolnation, it will show up on the new AWOL “NATION” fan site in real-time.
Behind the scenes, The Uprising Creative, the design and development company behind the site, built it on top of a customized WordPress install and used custom-built tools to tap into the APIs from these four services Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Vimeo. As posts are found via the APIs, they are pulled into the site, and anything with a geo-tag is additionally mapped to its specific coordinates using the Google Maps API.

“Saturday Night Live” writer Mike O’Brien’s webseries “7 Minutes in Heaven” has been entertaining us for a while now. In it, he interviews celebs from a closet and — true to the show’s name — tries to get a little makeout action at the end of their time together.
YouTuber Daviddglynn had the inspired idea to cut all of the awful kisses together into one reel. Check it out:

With arena-rock choruses and anthems as flashy as his hometown of Las Vegas, Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has fashioned himself to be something of a glam-pop Bruce Springsteen. In that way, ‘Battle Born,’ the first we’ve heard from the band in four years, is an epically masculine, unapologetically dramatic, thoroughly enjoyable listen — if you can get over the fact that it’s really, really cheesy.
When it gets big, it gets really big. Take, for instance, the shotgun-wedding power ballad ‘THE RUNAWAYS’. Lines are “I got a tendency to slip when the nights get wild,” or the John Mellancamp camp of the country-infused ‘From Here On Out,’ which includes the words “your quarterback smile and crocodile tears.”
And when it gets soft, it gets really soft. The balladeering is off the charts, most notably on ‘Heart of a Girl,’ a comparatively minimalist composition that’s all bass lines, soft plucks and shakers. Again, Flowers, reminisces about romances past, and this time, he’s arguably at his most charming: “She wrote her number down and gave it to me/they had to scrape me off the floor.”
What, then, are the themes of ‘Battle Born?’ It’s about going for it. It’s about not stopping now. It’s about love. It’s about life. It’s about death. It’s about America.

3D printing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using additive processes, where an object is created by laying down successive layers of material. 3D printing is considered distinct from traditional machining techniques (subtractive processes) which mostly rely on the removal of material by drilling, cutting etc.
The technology is not new. They’ve been used to make manufacturing and engineering prototypes for more than 25 years. But printer makers are now turning their attention to the consumer market, and have been rewarded with soaring sales and stock prices — as well as the prospect of lucrative buyouts.
Some printers capable of churning out simple items such as keychains, wine bottle holders and missing board game pieces are already selling for as little as $350. That’s cheaper than a high-end version of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 with Kinect.
Copyright holders will cringe, but people are already using printers to make Star Wars battle cruisers or a cheaper alternative to Lego or Mattel Inc toys.
Currently, though, the process is slow — about 45 minutes to make something the size of an egg, and about four hours to create an item the size of a soft drink can.
