It’s a Morther’s Day gift from one of the biggest bands in alternative music: Radiohead is finally releasing their new album in a surprise digital drop today at 2pm EST. The UK icons have been stirring the pot lately with vague flyers mailed out to fans, mailing 35mm film of videos to movie theaters, and taking down all of their social media presence to simply put it back up again. Oh and if that was not enough they dropped not 1 but two different creepy fun music videos this week with “Burn the Witch” and “Daydreaming”.The two new tracks have drawn nearly 13 million views on YouTube, so RH fans must have a fever waiting for this new music. No, the cure for that fever is not more cowbell.
This uncontrollable anxious feeling has overtaken many fans online like the unfortunate souls who made online bets that this anticipated album would come out on Friday, it did not so they had to eat a printed photo of Thom Yorke. Yeah, another reminder the internet is weird.
“Burn the Witch” was released online this week with this animated video which appears to be a fun animated tale with Playmobil like figures, but it can’t stay happy long and veers off into Tim Burton demented fairy tale direction.
The “Daydreaming” video which dropped on Friday, was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson the same man who behind movie classics ‘Boogie Nights’ and ‘Magnolia’. It sees Thom lost and walking from a fairly civilized world to a rural setting still looking for something or someone. Also check out the weird voice near the end of the track around the 6 minute mark, if your not scared by that you are braver than me. I should hold your hand when we go through a haunted house.
They have been toiling away on and off on this album for a few years now, so the anticipation is quite large for this release among their loyal worldwide following. And from what’s been uploaded already, we can gather that Thom Yorke and company will take their sound to new cinematic and emotional heights.
UPDATE: A Moon Shaped Pool is the title of the new RH album which will be available through digital music outlets this afternoon.
