It has been reported for over a month that the Foo Fighters new album ‘Concrete & Gold’ (due out September 15th) will feature a ‘huge pop star’ singer, with Dave Grohl and company keeping it secret until today. Star of many ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch, the only member of boy band N’SYNC that your sister cared about, Justin Timberlake will contribute a vocal performance on the album according to a report today by Rolling Stone. “We’d drink whiskey in the parking lot,” Grohl says. “He was really, really cool. Then the night before his last day, he says, ‘Can I sing on your record? I don’t want to push it, but—I just want to be able to tell my friends.’ ” He just wanted to be able to tell his friends?! I want to tell my friends I have a condominium on the Moon but I can’t just have it!
No matter what your feelings are on Timberlake, he has an undeniable sly voice and has proven in his solo album a sophisticated take on pop music. It will be interesting to see how he figures into the soulful fracas of fun that is the Foos who now have a keyboardist in veteran player Rami Jaffeee. The band’s sound has never stayed dormant , it’s almost always challenging yet still true to the band’s ethos to do all things that rock in one way or another.
Oh yeah, there is this obscure English musician Paul McCartney is going to be on the album as well. Excuse me, cough …cough, let me clear my throat.
PAUL McCARTNEY FROM THE BEATLES?! Yes, that has been known for some time with Grohl letting it slip a while back. McCartney will reportedly contribute some drums on the album. Grohl texted Sir Paul and simply asked him to which the living legend responded to with “You’re crazy, man!”. When your Dave Grohl you can just text titans of music and he responds like that, you are legit.
They are not done with the guest stars, R&B standouts Boys II Men are also doing something on the album.
