Irish legends U2 are starting up the road to a new album with the release of new track last week ‘The Blackout’ (watch below) and today they uploaded another new song titled ‘You’re the Best Thing About Me’. On first listen, it reminds me of the self-inspection of emotions that we saw Bono take on their standout album ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’. It also has this bridgethat has a lot of funkier layers to it that I was not expecting, but it still retains that smooth guitar sound the Edge is known for.
This song will be a part of ‘Songs of Experience’ which was completed last year, but the Dublin based mega-band felt they needed to re-evaluate the material with all the big news in the world and their 30th anniversary ‘Joshua Tree’ tour gaining so much traction in stadiums this year, that makes sense. It follows up 2014’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ which was released in a unique way that ended up getting band in a lot of hot water. More on that here from the Independent.
Listen to the other new song from U2 ‘The Blackout’ here. The loud stomp and clap jam was premiered in another unique fashion with a live performance video via the band’s Facebook. Am I the only one hearing Red Hot Chili Peppers on this?!
