Today, Phantogram released their first new song since 2016’s ‘Three’ with the emotional ‘Someday’. The song features singer Sarah Barthel sharing her pain following the passing of her sister. Proceeds from the song will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The song was originally intended for ‘Three’ and is built around a sample from soul singer AL Green’s “I’m Still in Love With You” and “Livin’ for You”, but it was shelved when Barthel’s sister comitted suicide. Phantogram according to Consequences of Sound would then pick up the song months later, and rework the song with a fresh perspective.
“I’m always going to miss you, I’m always going to feel you in everything that I do… oh I love you so,” sings Barthel on the chorus. It clearly has a lot of heaviness to it, that immediately connects with you on the first listen.
The B-side to the single is a cover of Sparklehouse’s ‘Saturday’. You can hear that dreamy tune here.
