Thanks to this interview with Las Vegas magazine, Mark Hoppus has given us a little insight as to what to expect if you travel to Vegas to watch Blink-182. They will be playing a 16-date residency at the Palms starting this Saturday (May 26th).
- It won’t be your typical Blink-182 concert. Mark says “we told our production crew that we have to pull out all the stops to make it something really special and exciting, that people walk away from shaking their heads in awe, saying, ‘What the hell did I just see?’.”
- It won’t be the same show every night. While they will likely be playing the hits at each show, they plan on varying up how deep they go on older material…or whether they play newer songs.
- If you are hoping for a full album performance, you will be disappointed. The good news is that Mark acknowledged that the idea of playing entire Enema of the State record to coincide with its 20th year is “something that we plan to do in the future.” (side note: WTF, it’s been two decades?!?)
- Opening acts and surprise guests will definitely be a thing. Sounds like the group is just going to play it by ear, based on which bands and people happen to be in town for the weekend. That could be pretty cool.
- Taking up residency might lead to a new album. Mark pointed out that not having to deal with the logistics and stress of travel leaves the band with more free time — time that might lead to new Blink-182 music. They plan on working on stuff in studio space at the Palms. Added bonus.
