How will we see Carrie Fisher in the next Star Wars film?

Carrie Fisher tragically passed away in December 2016 months after completing filming of ‘Star Wars Episode VIII- The Last Jedi’, and questions arose on how her beloved Princess Leia’s character arc would be completed in the sci-fi series. The news came yesterday direct from StarWars.com with a cast announcement that Fisher’s role will continue with director J.J. Abrams revealed how this will be done in a statement.

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.” said Abrams.

The cast announcement also revealed that Marc Hammil will return to the series in some way, while Billie D. Williams is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. Collider Video breaks down all the nerdiness for Episode XI and allows fans to breathe geeky sighs of relief.
