The news dropped earlier this week and it had Ghostbusters fans spilling their HiC Ecto Cooler all over themselves.
Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman who directed the 80’s original., has worked on the script and will direct this movie which is set to be a direct sequel to the first film and ‘Ghostbuster 2’. It’s currently slated by Sony to be released in the summer of 2020. The world got their first taste with a minute long teaser that showed the familiar Ghostbusters car ‘Ecto-1’ shelved away in a barn in a creepy rural setting.
Not much else is known, but Collider Movie Talk says the script is ready to go and the movie could be in production soon. They also noted that Second City alum Dan Akroyd who co-wrote and starred in the original film, committed to the new adventure in November in an interview with Dan Rather.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jason Reitman clarified this is a sequel and does not seem to play into the divisive 2016 all-female casted reboot which featured actors from the first films not reprising their original roles. “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman says. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
Nerdist News digged into the teaser with some possible hidden details in the teaser which could tell us somethings about the upcoming film.
