The rules of professional sports can sometimes lead to almost unbelievable stories. Like the story of Scott Foster, who for one year ago tonight — transformed from a Chicago area accountant into a shut-out goaltender for the Blackhawks.
NHL franchises are only allowed two goaltenders on their rosters. And during games, an emergency goaltender is in the building – ready to play for either team, by the way — in the very rare case that both net minders are injured. In fact, the last time it happened prior to March 29th, 2018 — a guy played for seven seconds.
Scott Foster played considerably longer. 14 minutes. He faced seven shots and gave up zero goals. Deservedly, he named the number one star for that game. And he will forever have a place in Chicago sports-lore. — [eric]
