Scooters are coming to Chicago

Like DIVVY bikes, you’ll soon be able to temporarily rent out electric scooters to ride around the city on!

The electric scooters have been introduced in cities like San Fransisco and Washington DC with quite a bit of controversy. The concern comes from injuries sustained by both riders and pedestrians on the sidewalk. People have also been known to leave scooters behind on sidewalks causing traffic and buildup.

Chicago has taken this into consideration of course and has invited scooter companies that have, in their claims, proven that they have taken measures to combat rider safety issue and scooter littering.

The companies allowed to put their Scooters out on the road include Bird, Bolt, gruv, Jump, Lime, Lyft, Sherpa, Spin, VeoRide, and Wheels. You may notice the ride-sharing company Lyft is also getting into the scooter game as well.

Don’t get too excited though, because this is just a trial run for the scooters in the city. Starting Saturday you can start renting the cooters using each companies specific app until October 15th when the city will consider the dangers of the scooters and decide if they are worth keeping around.
