Beyond the Trailer covers why this is happening and what the future of ‘Batwoman’
It debuted last October and joined several other hit DC Universe shows on the CW, but ‘Batwoman’ has lost it’s lead performer heading into Season 2 with ComingSoon.net reporting that Ruby Rose has left the show. The role will be re-cast for the next season.
Though her tenure was short lived in the role, Rose made history becoming the first lesbian superhero lead and was being primed for a crossover story with another CW superhero series, ‘Superman & Lois’.
Rose issued a statement:
“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success — I am truly grateful.”
The CW, Warner Bros TV, and the producers of the show put out the following joint statement:
“The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
The first season of Batwoman ended early due to the global pandemic forcing filming to shut down before the final two episodes of its 22-episode season could be shot.
In the trailer for Season 1, you might catch some scenes filmed in Chicago including some car chases over the Chicago River in the Loop. Chicago is ‘Gotham City’ right?
