From September 2004, to November 2006, “Laguna Beach” was on MTV and it was the greatest of times. It followed rich, beautiful, high schoolers and their drama filled lives at the beach. Everyone wanted to be Lauren Conrad, Lo Bosworth, Kristin Cavallari, or Stephen Colletti. The teens were followed in a ‘reality’ show that was heavily produced to make storylines work every week. Was Kristin really a villain? Probably not, but the show certainly made her seem like the mean girl at your school. Stephen was the hot guy no one could truly have, and Lo was the best confidant. She went to my college, turns out she’s the best at keg stands too. My point is, it was sort of relatable, even though 99.9% of people watching would never live like them, they were real to us because they went through the same high school BS.
We love “Laguna Beach.” And “The Hills” coming back too is icing on the cake. It was made for people that couldn’t let go of Laguna, and were willing to watch some of the same people try to ‘make it’ in LA. Both are back on Netflix, Laguna on Nov. 11th, and Hills starting December 15th.
