Jade Janks of Encinitas, California has been accused of drugging, strangling, and suffocating her ex-stepfather with a plastic bag on New Years Eve 2020. Janks allegedly found an explicit photo of herself on his computer while she was cleaning out his room. She allegedly confessed to killing the man to her friend Adam Siplyak, according to his testimony on Thursday. She reportedly wanted to make the death look like an overdose because he abused alcohol and drugs, according to officials.

In a series of texts, it was revealed that Janks texted a friend to confirm that he was dead and that she “dosed the hell out of him.” The defense says that the stepfather’s death was self-inflicted, saying that he died of a fatal dose of Ambien.

Janks faces life in prison if convicted.
