Missing packages? Your mail might have ended up in a South Loop hotel

Chicago Police discovered stolen mail in a vacant South Loop hotel room just after midnight on Tuesday. The Virgin Hotel on North Wabash housed the stolen mail. WGN cameras caught officers transporting the mail upon their arrival on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for USPS said, “Postal Inspectors and Chicago Police have launched an investigation this morning into which individual(s) possessed Postal property at that downtown hotel room, how they came into its possession, and what specific criminal activity they may have used it for.”

On average each household receives two pieces of mail each day. 9.5 million people live in Chicagoland – that’s 19 Million pieces of mail a day in Chicagoland. The Sightline Institute says each American receives an average of 41 pounds of junk mail per year. New York University says 5.6 million tons of junk mail end up in America.
