The Cubs, coming off of an exhausting series in New York, have a chance to establish themselves as the top dogs in the NL Central with this weekend series against Milwaukee.

Mexico Fest at Navy Pier (Friday-Sunday) 

Immerse yourself in Mexican culture in honor of Cinco de Mayo on Sunday, May 5. Mexico Fest at Navy Pier (May 3 – 5) will feature free music and dance performances from Mexican artists, a curated marketplace experience with more than 30 vendors, and exciting free workshops. Events include performances from local groups like Ballet Folklorico de Chicago, Mariachi Estrellas de Chicago, Grupo Cizma, and more.

Bluey’s Big Play at Auditorium Theater (Friday-Sunday) 

When Dad feels like a little bit of Sunday afternoon time out, Bluey and Bingo have other plans! Join them as they pull out all of the games and cleverness at their disposal to get Dad off that bean bag. BLUEY’S BIG PLAY is a brand-new theatrical adaptation of the Emmy® award-winning children’s television series, with an original story by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, and new music by Bluey composer, Joff Bush. Join the Heelers in their first live theatre show made just for you, featuring brilliantly created puppets, this is Bluey as you’ve never seen it before, brought to real life.

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal at Thalia Hall (Friday)

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, the “emo rap” persona of Adam McIlwee (formerly of the emo band Tigers Jaw) heads to Thalia Hall to play a special set in ‘the round’ on Friday night. For over a decade, McIlwee has been a true innovator in a variety of alternative spaces. His latest project, a self-titled foray into 80’s “modern rock”, may be his best yet. The 502s at House of Blues (Friday, Saturday) 

Indie-folk standouts The 502s, best known for their viral hit “Just A Little While”, will be at the House of Blues on both Friday and Saturday night. Secure your ticket here.

Face to Face at Cobra Lounge (Friday, Saturday) 

Punk-rock icons Face to Face are in the midst of their Triple Crown – three shows in three nights. Night One on Thursday featured the band playing their breakthrough debut Don’t Turn Away in full. On Friday, they’ll play the wonderful 1995 release Big Choice. They’ll close out by playing 1996’s self-titled album in full. These shows are sold out.

Belle & Sebastian at Salt Shed (Saturday, sadly I will not be interviewing them) 

One of the great indie rock acts of all-time, Belle & Sebastian, head to The Salt Shed on Saturday night. The band was most recently in Chicago in 2022 for a thrilling, two-hour performance at The Riv. if that show was any indication, the Scottish imports still have their fastball. This should be a tremendous show. Limited tickets remain.

Trophy Eyes at Bottom Lounge (Saturday) 

Trophy Eyes are some of the strongest standouts among the modern emo scene. Having been heavily rumored to be a part of this year’s Riot Fest, you have a chance to see them at Bottom Lounge before they possibly return later this year. Tickets can be found here.

Chicago Fire host New England Revolution (Saturday) 

It’s Star Wars Night! It’s the night before Cinco de Mayo! There’s never been a better time to see the Chicago Fire!

Camp Hide N Seek at Children’s Museum (Saturday) 

The Chicago Children’s Museum hosts an adults-only night out, featuring three open bars, hearty appetizers, live music and camp-inspired activities like archery and bag toss. Guests are encouraged to put on their best glamping cocktail attire and explore the museum exhibits throughout the event.

Star Wars Party at Evergreen Park Public Library (Saturday)

Channel the force on National Star Wars Day and join us for our Star Wars Party! Play Star Wars bingo, take part in outer-galactic crafts, and create your own Jedi Lightsaber. Kids get a free Star Wars book while supplies last. Costume welcome, though not required. No registration necessary.

Star Wars Characters ‘On Main’ between Jefferson and Jackson Avenues on Main St. (Saturday)

Star Wars characters will spend an hour on Main Street in downtown Naperville offering free photo opportunities to celebrate May the 4th!
