Reports this week by Business Insider and AV Club revealed that Facebook, the champion of social media has 60 million fake users on their platform. The data was announced this week in profit announcement from Facebook, and these fakes which are specifically identified as “non-existent people or ones not associated with a real account” make up 2 -3 percent of the 2.07 billion users on the massive FB universe.
So it does really win that argument with my friend that those supermodels who keep sending me friend requests are not real people but robots from a troll farm? Maybe….
It’s admirable that Facebook is being honest about this issue, especially with wide spread reports of foreign groups using the social media platform to influence political campaigns and scammers using these accounts to steal money from unknowing people.
