Amazon’s smart voice-commanded Alexa speakers have been creeping people out across the world, by randomly laughing at people without being prompted by anyone. Ugh, are the machines laughing at us before they revolt and our lives become ‘Terminator: Rise of Machines’? That movie was not easy to watch, so imagine living in that reality.
Multiple people have posted about this skin-crawling experience online. The ball of terror got rolling when Twitter user @CaptHandleBar.
So Alexa decided to laugh randomly while I was in the kitchen. Freaked @SnootyJuicer and I out. I thought a kid was laughing behind me. pic.twitter.com/6dblzkiQHp

According to the Verge, Amazon is aware of the problem and is working on it. The company deactivate the phrase “Alexa, laugh,” and changing the command to “Alexa, can you laugh?” Yeah, that will calm me down when you randomly hear a computer laughing you in the middle of the night ….or not. Many people who have endured the cackling smart-ass speakers did the most obvious thing: they unplugged their Alexa.
Youtube dudes ETC Daily explain the phenomenon and riff on how scary it must be to hear it.
