Weird promotions were pretty common at Comisky in the late 1970’s. This one seemed no different from the beginning. People paid a dollar admission for a double header if they brought a disco record to destroy between games, it’s Disco Demolition Night baby! After the Tigers won the first game, disc jockey Steve Dahl knew it was time to blow up some records. They weren’t sure if a lot of people would show up, that’s why promotions director and the owners son, Mike Veeck, thought to give the discount. 70,000 people showed up. After the records were destroyed, people slowly started to leave their seats… running onto the field while the Sox were warming up and suddenly… the field was on fire…. watch!
