If you are the victim of a strong-armed robbery, don’t expect your bank to step in to assist you. Colin Johnson, a 24-year-old in Lakeview, learned that hard way that Citibank would be of no assistance after his money and phone were taken from him last August. The thieves immediately went into his phone and drained his bank account through Zelle. He lost $11,000 by the time things were done.
The bank declined Johnson’s requests for a refund and declined his appeals. When Johnson got in touch with them over his money, they suggested, “You may wish to reach out to the recipient directly to resolve this matter.”
Only one issue with that, Johnson was, you know, robbed, and didn’t know the thieves personally.
Johnson said he’s still waiting on a small portion of refunds from Citibank, but the majority of what he lost is now back in his savings account.
