So with less than 72 hours under it’s belt ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is dominating the box office with $75 million on Friday alone. It’s another triumph for Marvel Studios and let’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe grow stronger with many films planned in the next few years all with interwoven stories. Yet one of character who has shined for Marvel in the Avengers series and other related stories, the Black Widow has never gotten the solo treatment like her Avenger team mates Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk. The trained assassin and SHEILD butt-kicker played by Scarlett Johansen in these films has the legs to carry her own movie, and it appears Marvel is going in that direction based of recent news.
“We’ve announced the next nine movies, 10 counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.” said Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige in an interview with Deadline this week.
