Weezer continues to be happy doing only things they can do like writing a trippy tribute to NASA and the American conquests of our galaxy. The band with collaborator Atticus Ross were asked to pen a song by NASA, in honor of the 4th of July orbit of the planet Jupiter by the Juno spacecraft. The patriotic song “I Love the USA” features some naughty words repeatedly and is overall a fun lighthearted song but has this soaring guitar solo with layered background vocals that make it all really fulfilling. Sample lyric : “I love the USA/ F*c*k yeah, this place is great!”
Other songs for the Jupiter 4th of July occasion were commissioned by NASA and Apple Music. The most notable other contribution comes from Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor who worked with Ross on the track simply called “Juno”. The airy song features actually recordings of the planet Jupiter ‘singing’. You can get it on iTunes.
The one-off single comes weeks after the release of ‘the White Album’ and helps remind us they will soon be in our ‘universe’ at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater with Panic at the Disco and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness on July 10th. So of course we are giving you a shot at FRONT-ROW tickets to the show here.
As someone is deeply fascinated with space travel and loves to throw the ‘W’ finger symbol up when possible, this is a great combo. It’s like peanut butter and chocolate coming together for the first time. It would be neat to see Rivers Cuomo and company perform this in outer space?! oh wonder if they are going to headline PIQNIQ 2076 …ON THE MOON! Yes, the Moon it just seems inevitable that we’ll be putting on shows on the 51st State of USA.
