In a monumental three-game series, the Chicago White Sox did something that they hadn’t done all season. The South Siders hosted the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend and they swept the Rays. This included a nine-run Friday night, a walk-off win on Saturday, and a two-run victory on Sunday. The Sox doubled their win total from 3 wins to 6 wins by the end of the weekend. You simply cannot ask for anything better than this.
The Cubs, who had been surging, ran into some roadblocks on Boston over the weekend. After another killer start from Shota Imanaga on Friday, the North Siders lost 17-0 on Saturday night. With a chance to rebound on Sunday Night Baseball, the Cubs gave up a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to drop the series.
The Sox now stand at 6-22, while the Cubs fall to 17-11.

Today at noon, the Bears will unveil their plans for a new lakefront stadium, ending their multi-year battle over getting a new stadium.
Per the Tribune’s reporting, sources spoke to the news outlet on conditions of anonymity, telling them the plan is estimated to cost $4.6 billion to execute, with $3.2 billion directed toward building the new stadium itself, and another $1.4 billion dedicated to infrastructure improvements around and outside the stadium.
This, of course, will only add onto the taxes in the city, which is not what anyone wants. If it brings home a Super Bowl, however, then it will be worth it.
WGN has reported that the Bears could finally, officially be on the move after an exhaustive search for a new stadium.
According to the most recent WGN report, city officials have been invited to a press conference on Wednesday to announce plans for the construction of a new domed stadium on the lakefront. This stadium will be publicly owned, according to sources.
Q101 will have up-to-the-minute updates on this situation going forward.

Cigarettes After Sex are back and they’re on a white-hot run. Their new single, “Dark Vacay”, is more of the same from a band that seems to have honed in on their own aesthetic and sound. This is yet another dreamy, melodic masterpiece that captures the ideal sound of the band.

After losing $22 million over the last year, partially by way of consumers taking advantage of the ‘Endless Shrimp’ promotion, Red Lobster is considering filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The outlet reported that the seafood restaurant chain is being advised by law firm King & Spalding on the subject, and that while discussions about restructuring are ongoing and that no final decisions have been made about a bankruptcy filing.
Red Lobster did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A top aide to Dolton mayor and Thornton Township supervisor Tiffany Henyard has been indicted for bankruptcy fraud. Keith Freeman, who has been in the headlines for his alleged-corruption alongside Henyard for months now, not only failed to report his income from the village of Dolton, but actively hid it during bankruptcy proceedings by using a pass-through company and new bank.
This could be a sign of things to come as the corruption in Dolton. “We are aware of the indictment made against Mr. Freeman,” read an emailed statement from a public relations firm that represents both governments. “As this is an ongoing investigation, we will refrain from making any further comments at this time.”
The White Sox held a team meeting before the game yesterday to address the ongoing issues within the organization. For those that haven’t been tuned into baseball this season: everything is a problem. They can’t pitch. They can’t hit. No one is at the ballpark.
Grifol’s words fell on deaf ears as they Sox were shut out for a record-tying sixth time in sixteen games. Eloy Jimenez, who returned from the IL last night, struck out to end the game in his only plate appearance.
They currently sit 29th out of 30 teams in Team Batting Avg., 30th in Home Runs, 30th in OPS, and 30th in total bases. Their pitching staff is 25th in ERA, 27th in home runs given up, and 25th in WHIP. No team meeting is going to fix these problems. Unfortunately, not even their farm system offers a glimmer of hope, as former White Sox catcher A. J. Pierzynski explained.
Former manager Ozzie Guillen lambasted the team in the post-game show and advocated for pitchers on opposing teams to do what they can to play against the Sox if given the opportunity.
This is all to say that the White Sox are historically bad and that the old Ozzie Guillen rings true: good teams win games, bad teams have meetings.
