Originally from Hammond, Indiana, Funk and his older brother Dory Funk Jr. followed in their father’s footsteps by entering the professional wrestling business. Originally a staple in the Amarillo, Texas, Funk’s success spread across the globe from the biggest promotions in the United States, Japan, and Puerto Rico.
There will never be another Terry Funk.
Below are three matches that define Funk’s lengthy, iconic career.
Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk: Clash of the Champions IX
The pinnacle of both Flair and Funk’s career took place in 1989. The summer-long feud tore apart WCW, climaxing at Clash of the Champions in November with a brutal, violent I Quit Match. A complete departure from the glossy, cartoonish aspect of the WWF at the time, this match shows Funk completely in his element.
Terry Funk vs. Carlos Colon: September 21, 1986
Carlos Colon was the Hulk Hogan of Puerto Rico. He was an icon and a part of the fabric of the country. Funk, was not. Funk was an evil invader who was looking to permanently injure the nation’s hero. What ensued was more Funk-branded violence.
Terry Funk & Dory Funk Jr. vs. Abdullah the Butcher & The Sheik: December 5, 1977
Terry Funk was a superstar in Japan. He changed the wrestling industry there. Initially embraced as a form of nationalism in a depleted World War II, the first 20 years of Japanese wrestling featured Japanese heroes vs. foreign invaders. Then, the Funk Brothers came along. They were so beloved that they became heroes and eventually expanded the industry beyond the rigid nationalistic view that it was built on. The match between Terry, Dory, Abdullah, and The Sheik marked the finals of All Japan Pro Wrestling’s inaugural Real World Tag League. This tournament would later come to symbolize peak athleticism in wrestling, but Terry Funk wasn’t an athlete. This was a bloody brawl that propelled Funk into superstardom.
A video is going viral of Third Eye Blind frontman Stephen Jenkins getting into an argument with an autograph hound at an airport. Jenkins seemed perturbed at the “fan” who came up to the 3EB frontman with a stack of records to sign, then called out the eBay reseller culture that permeates all of the entertainment industry.
Edwin McCain, the 90’s one-hit wonder, then weighed in, chastising Jenkins for his behavior.
Is Jenkins wrong for this? The conversation lives on Facebook!

The daughter of John & Zoe from Portugal. The Man has an extremely rare genetic mutation that causes the degenerative disease DHDDS. She is 1 of 6 known cases in the world and medical science is now in the experimental phases of developing treatments for rare diseases.
Unfortunately, because this is so rare, it receives very little research funding. There is no insurance company to go through, there are no medications that exist.
John & Zoe are needing to raise a staggering amount of money to find a cure for their daughter so we are working on ways to support Frances.
The band was initially reluctant to ask for public support that coincided with an album & tour but realized that they have a platform to help all the families that have been & will be affected by DHDDS.
You can donate to the cause via the family’s verified GoFundMe here.
Vanilla Ice might not be enough to keep the White Sox on the South Side.
A report yesterday from Crain’s Chicago Business broke the news that the Sox could be on the move when their lease ends in six years. According to the report, owner Jerry Reinsdorf is open to the possibility of selling the team, even if it takes them out of the city. This move could be to the suburbs, or, it could take the team to Nashville.
A team spokesperson declined comment on that portion of the report that the team could be leaving Guaranteed Rate when the lease ends in 2029.

Ahead of their headlining Riot Fest set on Saturday September 16, Death Cab for Cutie is out with a new track called “An Arrow In the Wall”. “‘An Arrow In the Wall’ is about the warning signs all around us in the 21st century that society-at-large is in decay,” said vocalist and guitarist Ben Gibbard in a press statement. “The arrow lodged in the wall might have missed this time, but it would be naive to assume the next one won’t also.”

Ahead of Dookie’s 30th Anniversary, Green Day has dropped a handful of unreleased demos from their iconic record. While each demo is worth digging through, especially for hardcore Green Day fans, we recommend starting things with “Basket Case”, which features totally different lyrics than what we’ve all come to know and love.
Hozier: Unreal Unearth
Just before his sold-out show at Northerly Island, Hozier is back with his third studio album, Unreal Unearth. The release is a return to form for the standout singer-songwriter. Sam Eeckhout of Paste stated that the album is “packed full of poetic lyricism, heavyhearted remorse, hopeful anticipation and an honest expression of the joys and sorrow of being a human” and has “a sharp balance” that makes it “never top-heavy” nor “ever stagnant”.
Movements: RUCKUS!
Orange County emo-up-and-comers Movements are back with their first record since 2020’s No Good Life to Give. RUCKUS! is an exciting step forward for a band that is rapidly gaining momentum. Loud, abrasive, and emotional, RUCKUS! is an album worth checking out.
