New music out today featuring Foo Fighters, The Revivalists, and more!

June 2 could go down as the best day for new music all year. Q101 is pumped about all 9 of these releases today.

Foo Fighters: But Here We Are

Dave Grohl is once again in the forefront of our minds as the Foo Fighters are back with their eleventh studio album and first since the death of Taylor Hawkins with But Here We Are. You heard tracks like “Rescued”, “Under You”, and “The Teacher” first on Q101 with Brian & Kenzie, and now we are giving you the opportunity to hear the entire record with us on June 2. Starting at 9:00AM, the top of every hour will feature one track from But Here We Are. We only get new Foo Fighters albums every so often, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you.

lovelytheband: If We’re Being Honest

lovelytheband is back with If We’re Being Honest, which features stand out single “Sail Away”. This is the group’s third record and if it’s anything like the first two, we expect plenty of these songs to be stuck in our head going forward. They’ll be back in Chicago at the House of Blues on June 20.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds: Council Skies

One-half of the mighty forces behind Oasis, Noel Gallagher, is back with a fresh release from his High Flying Birds band. The 10-song album promises to be big and bittersweet, just like classic Oasis. Gallagher rolls into Northerly Island on June 27.

Rancid: Tomorrow Never Comes

Christmas came early for denim vest-wearing street punks. Rancid are back with a new record that probably won’t live up to the …And Out Come the Wolves, but will most certainly sound similar.

The Revivalists: Pour It Out Into the Night

Riding high off of the recent success of “Kid”, The Revivalists will launch their fifth studio album, Pour It Out Into the Night, into orbit on June 2. The Revivalists will not only be at Lollapalooza in what should be one of the best sets of the weekend, but on June 16, the band will head to The Forge for an intimate Q101 Pop-Up Performance. This show is free! More information can be found here.

Rival Sons: DARKFIGHTER

Blues-inspired Rival Sons have have a new record out, the bold and brash DARKFIGHTER. They’ll be at Chicago’s Concord Music Hall next Friday, June 9. Tickets can be purchased here.

Tigercub: The Perfume of Decay

Tigercub is officially one of Q101’s “bands to watch”. Under the radar for far too long, this band has truly started to make an impact on everyone who comes across their work. The band’s third record, the aforementioned titled The Perfume of Decay, could easily be the band’s best work yet.

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal: S/T

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal is one of music’s must under appreciated minds. A fixture in emo stalwarts Tigers Jaw before pivoting to “emo rap”, the gothic wunderkind is once again reinventing himself with the release of his self-titled record. The lead single, “Moving Without Movement”, is somehow both deeply nostalgic and incredibly futuristic. We recommend spending some time with Wicca Phase this weekend.

Young the Giant: Both Sides

You know what we like? New Young the Giant music. The band is back with Both Sides, an EP full of songs that we can’t wait to devour.

Parents spark outrage over “reserving” park benches for child’s birthday party

A couple left a note on a park bench in an effort to “reserve” park benches for a child’s birthday party, and it’s driving a wedge between the Internet.

Please respect the space we’ve set aside & do not use our tables. This is a 4 yr. old’s party. Don’t be the one to mess it up. Thank you.

Trader Joe’s denies popular conspiracy theory that they purposefully make their parking lots small

Trader Joe’s has had enough of the memes, jokes, and conspiracies that claim that their parking lots are intentionally small. In a recent interview on the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast, VP of Marketing Tara Miller shot down the idea. “People out there in the world really seem to think, not all people, but a number of people, that we are purposefully making horrible parking lots.” Matt Sloan, another marketing guy at Trader Joe’s, continued, “We don’t open stores with the world’s most ridiculous parking lot on purpose.”

So, if you want to believe Big Trader’s, their parking lots aren’t intentionally small just so you’ll ride bikes or walk to their store.

The Cubs are in hot water for disrespecting Hall of Famer Billy Williams over the weekend. On Saturday, the team handed out Williams bobbleheads, but they had one major issue:

.290 career AVG, nearly 3000 career hits, and 426 career homeruns…while wearing #26 for the Cubs. Not even when Williams was shipped off to the A’s did he wear the #1.

The Cubs issued a statement after people noticed the mistake.
